MID:COM - New Data Card Format
Upgrade Information and pricing

For years Dynasys Cybercards (1 meg and 4 meg) have been used to
program Mid:Com 8000’s and to program tax calculation formulas into
the Mid:Com 8000’s. In addition, these cards are also used by end users
for "data collection" by their fuel delivery drivers. Delivery transactions
are recorded onto the card, to be processed and invoiced by office staff
later.

Due to constantly changing technology, the Dynasys Cybercard has been
discontinued and is no longer available for purchase through Mid:Com or
anywhere else. Some used cards may become available in the future, but
for now, new cards are not available.

"The Solution"

Mid:Com has provided a solution that uses standard "off the shelf" ommonly available Sandisk SD Flash cards. These memory cards are available at most computer stores and most places that sell digital cameras, such as Future Shop and Business Depot.

In order to use the Sandisks, you must first reprogram the Mid:Com 8000 using a Dynasys Cybercard, to recognize an adapter and a new card format. Then you insert a Mid:Com Flash Card Adapter (shown on the left)
into the Mid:Com 8000’s card reader slot. Now the Mid:Com 8000 will be able to use
the new cards without further setup. Any new tax codes or rogramming that needs to be
done, you just insert the Sandisk as you would a Cybercard.

Data Collection

Data collection is handled in a similar format. The Mid:Com Card
Reader Box that was hooked up to a COM port on your PC is now
replaced with an "off the shelf" USB Flash Disk Reader, as shown at
right.

These readers are set up through Windows 98 and above, and are "drag and drop" capable. Unfortunately, the Sandisk requires the format of the information to be written to the card in a slightly different format from that of the Cybercard, thus requiring the office fuel delivery software to be upgraded to write the information in this new format, before they can be used.

As an added benefit to upgrading, a 32MEG Sandisk will hold about 50,000 transactions and will search and locate any transaction in approximately 5 seconds. The current Cybercard holds only about 1000 transactions and takes much longer to find a transaction record.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. I am purchasing or have a truck with a Mid:Com. Will I need to upgrade the Mid:Com to the new data card format if I am not on data collection, or do not need to change my tax codes.?

No, Robica sets up a tax code structure (TAX6) that covers most scenarios encountered, from GST only to specifying commonly used products. If you are content with this structure, or the tax structure currently programmed in the Mid:Com 8000, and you are not electronically collecting delivery transactions, you may never need to upgrade.

Note: Due to lack of available Cybercards, any new tax code structure or changes in programming you may need setup, your truck may have to be brought to Robica to have it done. Having your unit upgraded will mean that any changes to the programming of the Mid:Com 8000 can be done by shipping an inexpensive Sandisk card to your door.

2. I am using data collection, will I need to upgrade?

If you have enough Cybercards for you current needs, and you are not planning on expansion, you may not need to upgrade. However, the Cybercards are not available for replacement. It is strongly recommended by Robica that you do upgrade for future flexibility in your organization.

3. I have decided on upgrading, what do I need to do?

Contact Robica.

The basic idea is this:

General Upgrade
1. Your Mid:Com 8000 will need to be programmed to SM80B using a Cybercard.
2. The Mid:Com Flash Card Adapter inserted into the card reader slot on the Mid:Com 8000.

Data Collection Upgrade
3. Your office computer data collection software will need an upgrade, to properly read and write the data in a slightly different format to the Sandisk in the USB port. Contact your IT manager or software provider for information regarding this.
4. You connect the USB reader to an open USB port or USB hub.
5. Continue as normal using the Sandisks, instead of the Cybercards.

Further detailed information can be obtained by contacting Robica, or Checking Mid:Com’s website
